Review: Performing Englishness

It’s been wonderful – and exciting – over the past few years to see Manchester University Press building a series of new British ethnographies. As a confessedly lapsed morris dancer, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to get my hands on a review copy of Trish Winter and Simon Keegan-Phipps‘ recent book in the series, Performing Englishness.

What did I make of it? (And did it get me dancing?) My review is out in the November issue of Social Anthropology. There’s also a pre-publication version up on my academia profile.

And, because I now have an excuse to post it, here is one of my favourite videos about morris dancing.
